Fleurieu Milk

South Australia is world renowned for producing the highest quality produce and Fleurieu Milk is a perfect example. Their dairy range comes from herds of cows that graze year-round green grass thanks to the above average rainfall the Fleurieu Peninsula receives.

The Fleurieu Milk Company production factory is located on the farm itself which enables the company to get products direct to shelves within 24 hours of the cows being milked.

Started by three families on two farms in 2004 now supports five dairy farms. All of which are within five kilometres of its factory on the outskirts of Myponga 25 minutes’ drive from Bellevue via Willinga Hill.

Fleurieu Milk produces a range of flavoured milk and a premium Jersey milk that it markets to cafes for making rich and creamy coffees.

If you visit any of the coffee shop on the Fleurieu Peninsula you will find that baristas love using Fleurieu Milk Company milk; they’re constantly amazed at its increased body and silkiness. Coffee lovers are ecstatic to find that their morning coffee is creamy and tasty again – like it used to be. The Jersey Premium milk has over 40% more butter fat than ordinary milks; you can imagine what that does for the taste.

And super good news for lovers of iced coffee – they make these (along with other flavours) including one that has no added sugar, BONUS!! You will be delighted to know that when you stay with us this is our milk of choice!

SloWhey School of Cheese

Take your love of cheese to whole new level.  Why not enrol in a cheese making course?

SloWhey School of Cheese is a project founded on goals of education in and celebration of sustainable cheesemaking and a slower way of living.  They are in the heart of the McLaren Vale Wine Region and not terribly far from the town of Willunga.

Their intimate workshop style classes involve a guided milk to mould process with each session focusing on producing several different cheeses.  Cheese making classes are very popular so you need to get in fast to secure a place.

Cheese classes include; Halloumi, Soft and Gooey Camembert & Fromage Frais, Farmhouse Cheese & Cultured Butter and periodically they run “The Fundamentals” (you know how to ferment milk and all things cheesy, and this is just the starting point!)  You should note that this one comes with wine!!

Woodside Cheese Wrights

Woodside Cheese Wrights and Kris Lloyd Artisan produces a range of traditionally made, multi award winning cheeses at their facility in the Adelaide Hills but there’s a close family link with McLaren Vale’s Coriole winery.

Woodside Cheese Wrights and Kris Lloyd Artisan produces a range of traditionally made, multi award winning cheeses at their facility in the Adelaide Hills but there’s a close family link with McLaren Vale’s Coriole winery.

Woodside Cheese Wrights, run by head cheesemaker Kris Lloyd, she is also the founder and chair of the South Australian Specialist Cheese Association.

Woodside’s The Monet is about as beautiful as a dairy product can get – a goats’ chevre wrapped in baby nasturtiums and other tiny flowers.

The Edith, a highly awarded French style goats’ cheese rolled in ash, as well as a hard cheese delicately wrapped in vine leaves is also very hard to beat.

And here is a first – Kris has started the “Clever Little Cheese Club”

If you head to Coriole cellar door you can experience Woodside Cheese Wrights Flight. These Flights are hosted in the Coriole Homestead overlooking picturesque vineyards and the Willunga hills.  Guests receive a taste of Fiano, Sangiovese and Estate Shiraz, along with a tasting plate of Woodside cheese, crackers, chutney, almonds, and local dried fruits.

Cellar doors with cheese platters…..

Is it all just a bit too hard to get to farms, markets or to make you own cheese? Then here is a selection of our favourite cellar doors that offer some excellent cheese platters…

Fox Creek are now offering single produce boxes of freshly prepared regional treats by Sarah from Real Food Life.

Platters include cheese with fresh fruit, vegetables, crackers & dip. Presented complete with cutlery so you can take with you. (Platters available Friday to Sunday only).

In McLaren Vale, Hastwell and Lightfoot is a small cellar door with an inviting and relaxed feel. Any place that

names their wines “fat n skinny” is our kinda wine. They offer two different sized platters, one called the ‘fat’ platter and the other, the ‘thin’. The fat is filled with fresh fruit, dips, cheeses and meats, all for $30 to share between two.

Harry Deli

Attached to the iconic cellar door at Wirra Wirra, Harry’s Deli is a casual café where you can get locally roasted coffee, wine, lunch and platters. And these platters are epic. Harry’s Deli has a focus on supporting local producers, so you’ll find plenty of Fleurieu and SA fare on those boards.

We recommend the “Cheese board from the Neighbourhood”  A selection of small batch cheeses sourced from within the Fleurieu Peninsula and the Adelaide Hills.   Casalingo vintage cheddar (La Vera), Lily Ash Camembert (Janey at Second Valley), Adel Blue (La Vera) Served with lavosh, dried apple, Lacewood Quince Paste and muscatels.
