Tourist Drive 60
is around 28km long and starts at the McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Visitor Information Centre McLaren Vale just 650m from Bellevue B&B Mclaren Vale The area has loads of wineries with cellar doors and many are small family concerns where the notion of “meeting your maker” reflects the opportunity to discuss bouquets, cellaring potentials and other vital information as you taste. The drive takes you past many of McLaren Vale famous wineries such as Hugh Hamilton WinesWirra Wirra Wines , Woodstock WineChapel Hill Wine Companyd’Arenberg and Maxwell Wines to name just a few. Cellar doors are not the only things on the route; there are restaurants, art galleries, cafes, breweries, road side stalls and the gorgeous Onkaparinga National park where vistas abound! Information on the Drive is available from the staff at the Centre, you can of course, just follow the well maintained and distinctive brown “Tourist Drive 60” signs.
Tourist Drive 55
Located on the eastern side of the Fleurieu Peninsula and stretching across the varied countryside and plains, the Alexandra Tourist Drive 55 is the second tourist drive within the Alexandra Council region. With vines, lakes and farms, the Alexandra Tourist Drive is a cultural treat through this part of the Fleurieu. Tourist Drive 55, as it is also known by, commences from the Visitor Information Centre at the Strathalbyn Railway Station. (A lovely 40 minute drive from Bellevue B&B Mclaren Vale through Prospect Hill and Meadows. The Drive leaves Strathalbyn and heads east past Belvidere and into the grape growing region of Langhorne Creek. The Langhorne Creek wineries have been growing strong reds for years and a stop at one of the wineries is a must. The Drive heads south and the landscape starts to change closer to Lake Alexandrina. The vines are replaced by bushes, farms rolls of hay.
Tourist Drive 50
With time to enjoy the scenery, possibly a stroll along a beach or through a heritage area, allow yourself 3 hours. Start your journey at the Goolwa Wharf – just 40 minutes from Bellevue B&B Mclaren Vale – follow the brown Tourist Drive 50 signs. Goolwa wharf once the centre of a thriving river and railway trade, transporting goods from River Murray towns by paddle steamer to Goolwa and then on to Port Elliot by train. You will see some of the most picturesque and historic locations the Fleurieu has to offer, including popular surfing beaches where Southern Right Whales can be spotted June to October. Lookouts and viewing platforms along the drive offer magnificent river and coastal views together with significant buildings, bush land and tree studded farmland. Tourist Drive 56
Take the 45 minute drive from Bellevue B&B Mclaren Vale through Mount Compass towards Victor Harbor. If you get a chance stop off at Alexandrina Cheese Company for a milk shake. Tourist Drive 56, or the Victor Harbor Highlights Drive, is a 26km self drive tour taking you past all of the popular spots in and around Victor Harbor. There is a particular focus on the four highest points and lookouts around the town. Starting at the large roundabout on top of the hill and at the entrance, the drive heads towards town a short distance before stopping at Kleinig’s Hill Lookout which offers the first real glimpse of the beautiful bay, harbor, causeway and Granite Island. The Drive leads you to the centre of the town and the Information Centre. Close to the Info centre is the start of the horse tram ride to Granite Island, Tourist Drive 56 is only 26km, and can take as short or long as you would like it to take.
Tourist Drive 52
Lush farming lands, rolling hills, pristine valleys, Stringybark and pine forests, and the unforgettable seascapes. This scenic route is 85 kilometres in length, and allows you to discover some of the Western Fleurieu Peninsula’s natural wonders. Some highlights of the drive include: St Mary McKillop’s Cottage, Torrens Vale Lookout, Parawa, Ingalalla Waterfalls, Deep Creek Conservation Park, Tapanappa Lookout, Raywood Nursery, Talisker Mine Ruins, Sappers Hill Road Lookout, Morgan’s Beach, Delamere, Rapid Bay, Second Valley, Lady Bay, Normanville, and the Shrine of Our Lady of Yankalilla at Christ Church Yankalilla.
Fleurieu Way
The Fleurieu Way is an interpreted drive around the Fleurieu Peninsula. This interpreted touring route, circles the Peninsula, linking the Great Ocean Road and the Adelaide metro area to the Fleurieu. Pick up a copy of The Fleurieu Way brochure from information centres. It includes maps and a series of local tourist routes that collectively present some of the most spectacular and rewarding ways to experience the Fleurieu Peninsula. There is the Hills and Seascape Discovery Trail through the Yankalilla district, the McLaren Vale Wine Trail, the Hills and Lake Drive around the Strathalbyn, Milang and Clayton area, the South Coast Drive around Port Elliot, Middleton, Goolwa and to the Murray River mouth, and the Victor Harbor Highlights Trail. Each of these drives takes you through some of the rich farmland areas where farm gate produce and other hands-on food experiences are available.
